So I’ve been gone for a long time. I apologize. The past month has been wild, stressful and awesome. Right now, I’m with my parents on the way to Gondar from the city of Bahir Dar. Before that My brother and I hiked through the Simien (North) Mountains. If you are a nerd like me, you might be saying, “Wow Mike, those sound like cities from the Lord of the Rings.” You would be right. J.R.R. Tolkien lived in Ethiopia and got some of his inspiration for the books here. My family and I have now covered the North of Ethiopia. Yesterday, we saw Blue Nile Falls, the source of the Nile and a monastery built on Lake Tana. We saw Hippos in the Nile River and a ton of wild birds. Prior, I took them to Lalibela where we saw churches dug out from the rock 900 years ago. Next we will head to Bonga where I will show them how I eat, sleep, work and live. Then I pick up Carly. I’M SO EXCITED. I will show her the tropical lake of Awassa and the safari city of Arba Minch. We will see giant hippos and crocodiles, zebra, and potentially lions and hyenas. It will feel like Africa. She is going to take some absolutely mind blowing pictures and we will hold hands too. So that’s where I’ve been, what I’m doing and what’s ahead. When my life settles down I will add some pictures and some insight to the places I’ve been.
